Each criterion can be marked on the scale 0 to 5 (see Figure 1). Each mark on the scale can have up to 96 unique remarks. This means that for each criterion there can be up to 96 x 9 (576) unique remarks. Each time the marker allocates a mark for a criterion, a remark is randomly selected from the relevant remark bank (see Figure 2). Selecting "Try Again" causes Marker's Black Box to randomly select another remark. A remark can be locked and this means that for the current item being marked, the remark will not change. The 96 remarks can be viewed in a list by selecting "View all remarks for this mark" and a particular remark can be selected from that list.
